MARK CRANWELL

Mark Cranwell joined Babelgum as Director of Content in January 2008. His responsibilities include overseeing and executing the strategy and acquisition of all content on the platform – online and mobile. He is responsible for licensed third party content and original, commissioned content. Since January 2010 Mark has assumed responsibility for the UK market working on ad sales and other revenue streams such as sponsorship, branded entertainment and online/offline events.

He is the producer for Downstream, an Oscar shortlisted documentary, as well as Dirty Oil, a feature length documentary that had its premiere in the UK in March 2010.

Prior to joining Babelgum, Mark was Director of Business Affairs for BT Vision, the broadband delivered video-on-demand offering launched in the UK in December 2006, where he was part of the senior management team and participated in the strategy and planning for BT Vision.

His remit also covered the acquisition of major content for the platform such as the film and television deals with all of the studios as well as sport (including the FAPL’s near live rights), music and interactivity. He was on the board of directors of ATVOD, the Association of Television Video on Demand, a self-regulatory body governing the video on demand operators in the UK. He is a regular panellist and speaker on digital rights and is the author of several articles and interviews on the subject of digital media and intellectual property as well as the authoring a chapter on copyright in the book Law and the Media. Mark is dual qualified to practise law in Alberta, Canada and England and Wales.
