The Pixel Lab: The Cross-Media Workshop

1. RESIDENTIAL WEEK 26 June – 2 July 2011
at the Resort Schwielowsee, Potsdam, Germany

Each day will begin with a buffet breakfast at the hotel, with lunch provided everyday and a three-course table d’hote dinner each evening. Teaching will be led by international cross-media experts with a mixture of group work, one-to-one meetings on request, indepth presentations and case studies from international filmmakers/ practitioners each day.

Subjects will include:

  • How to develop stories and create a story universe across multiple platforms
  • New marketing & distribution models: an exploration of a variety of new platforms, revenue models and direct-to-consumer models
  • Audience building and engagement using social media tools
  • Online tools and services
  • Legal and digital rights issues across development, production and financing
  • The new skills needed for producers and other media professionals in a multi-platform world
  • Project packaging, planning and presentation

These will be taught by international cross-media experts and pioneers, many of whom have participated at past Power to the Pixel events.

GROUP WORK
Participants will be divided into four groups – A, B, C, D – comprised of five producers attending with a project and five participants who will be partnered with a producer. Group work will be overseen by a Group Leader.

PROJECT PRESENTATION
Project partners will work together towards a two-minute project presentation at the end of the week to Lab participants/ tutors as well as invited industry guests from the Berlin-Brandenburg region.

2. DISTANCE LEARNING July – September 2011 – for producers with a project
Producers will work closely with their Group Leader to develop a selling document for delivery in mid-September, with input from an industry expert.

3. LONDON WORKSHOP mid-October 2011 (dates tbc) – for producers with a project
Run in tandem with Power to the Pixel’s annual Cross-Media Forum, producers will develop their pitching skills, with final project presentations to invited international industry guests.

At the end of the London workshop, one producer will be awarded with The Pixel Lab Prize.
