MAURICE VAN BRAST

Maurice van BrastI studied visual communication at the Bauhaus University in Weimar from 1993 to 1999 and I graduated with my diploma thesis Pandemonio – the Alphachannel. This was a Saturday Night TV Show which aired on our channel Worldhaus TV, a television channel which was installed in 1999 during a period when Weimar was the cultural capital of Europe. This channel was aired by the support of Eutelsat all over Europe and with a live stream worldwide. It was an experimental playground to push the boundaries of television as well as developing content a medium without any repressions like box office numbers.

After this time I started work as an editor for documentaries and feature films, from 2002 to 2006. I expanded my knowledge of online media as a regular designer for kika.de, the online platform of the German Children’s Channel. During this time I founded a production company for animation, TV and web, with two colleagues. We developed several animated TV-series, one we could pitch at the Cartoon Forum 2004 in Santiago de Compostela.  After this we started to develop ChiRho – the Secret and we produced the production bible for that huge project. It is on Air with 26 x 22 min episodes since 2010.

During my time at the KIKA I developed several interactive OnAir Tools with the Flash Technology, mostly known for creating web-content. Since 2008 I have taught frequently at the Bauhaus University in Weimar and I’ve developed a two-semester course for animated shorts and held a workshop for animated series, developed for a preschool audience. In 2012 I was the visiting professor for the chair of experimental television at the Bauhaus University Weimar.

I’ve published several essays on scientific design topics in The Slanted Magazine and short essays about our society in the magazine called die epilog. In the apst I’ve attended the following programs; the Akademie für Kindermedien 2012, I was selected for the rehearsal week and at the European Animation Masterclass, I participated in the pitching session with Mike Robinson. After 25 years in the creative industries, I love to shape my skills every single day.
